About The Event
Join us for a leisurely, one-mile guided hike at Summit Lake Nature Center, led by a knowledgeable naturalist from Summit Metro Parks. Nestled in the heart of Akron, Summit Lake has a rich history. It was once a bustling destination for canal travelers and amusement park visitors in the late 1800s, it has now been transformed into a haven for wildlife and a symbol of urban ecological renewal.
As we walk the scenic trail, we’ll explore the vibrant ecosystems that surround the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for great blue herons, belted kingfishers, and even the occasional bald eagle soaring overhead. The area is also home to muskrats, turtles, and a wide variety of native wildflowers, such as swamp milkweed and joe-pye weed, especially colorful in spring and summer.
Whether you're a seasoned nature lover or just looking for a peaceful outdoor stroll, this hike offers a perfect mix of…
